Granma newspaper published a summary of elements from Rodriguez in which he acknowledged that the difficulties existing in the country with transportation and its infrastructure are evidenced in a decrease in the capacity of passenger and cargo movement.
He pointed out that these difficulties are due to the lack of availability of financial resources.
He explained that the sustainability of transportation requires between 40 and 50 million dollars a year, when the Technical Availability Coefficient is below 50 percent, aggravated by the fuel situation in the country.
Rodriguez stated that in some provinces, only opening and closing trips are made due to fuel problems, besides, 40 percent of the roads present an unfavorable technical condition.
He said that the effect of the economic pressures of the United States against Cuba (blockade) causes considerable direct losses to this sector, as foreign currency is no longer captured in activities such as the tourism industry, affected by this hostile policy.
