During a campaign rally in Texas, DeSantis urged for the end to birthright citizenship, and proposed militarizing the southern border assuring that he would complete the construction of a wall in the border region with Mexico.
DeSantis added that once he becomes president, he will declare a national emergency from day one, and he will not rest until the wall is erected, “the illegal entry is closed and the war against drug cartels is won.”
The governor’s proposal calls for the arrest of undocumented immigrants until their hearing, a policy that would likely lead to tens of thousands being detained for an indefinite time.
The Republican arranged flights to bring immigrants to northern states in an operation that drew widespread condemnation from Democrats and civil rights advocates, and he also signed a controversial law that will take effect July 1 in Florida.
