Syrian president receives Russian deputy foreign minister

Damascus, Jun 26 (Prensa Latina) Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad on Monday received Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin, with whom he discussed bilateral coordination ahead of later events.

An official press release indicated that both sides debated on the fight against terrorism and joint efforts regarding the issue of the return of Syrian refugees to their country.

The head of State affirmed during the meeting that Western attempts to disrupt the actions of restoring security across Syria will not succeed and will not affect the efforts to achieve recovery and stability.

Meanwhile, Al-Assad reaffirmed his country’s support for Russia regarding the situation in Ukraine and rejection of all Western attempts hostile to Moscow.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister stressed the need to coordinate efforts within the framework of international relations, taking into account the fear of the United States and its allies of losing political and economic control at the global level.

The official welcomed Syria’s recent political successes at the Arab and international levels, and attached importance to Syrian-Russian coordination in international forums and joint efforts to combat terrorism.

Vershinin ratified his country’s ongoing support for Syria in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
