“We bid farewell to our sister, friend and Ambassador of #Mexico Maria Teresa Mercado who returns to her country after having fulfilled an exceptional mission in our #BolivianPlurinationalState,” tweeted Arce.
The head of Government noted on Twitter that Mercado maintained an “unwavering defense of our democracy, international law and human rights, during the rupture of the constitutional order in 2019.”
The leader thanked the diplomat for her performance, wished her success in her new functions and expressed that her actions will always remain “in our memory and in that of the Bolivian people.”
Mercado had received the decoration of the Legion of Honor Mariscal Andres de Santa Cruz y Calahumana in the degree of Grand Cross last Friday from the Arce’s Government in a protocol ceremony.
Upon fulfilling this governmental assignment, the Bolivian FM Rogelio Mayta acknowledged Mercado’s diplomatic work during her stay in Bolivia, which allowed to consecrate and strengthen the bilateral and integration relation between both peoples.
Likewise, the diplomat highlighted the leadership and steady courage she demonstrated in preserving the democratic principles, life and security of the Bolivian people and former authorities after the incidents of violence registered by the executors of the coup d’état of 2019.
