Security Chief Khaled al Harb told local media that a normal season is expected and necessary measures were taken to ensure the pilgrimage.
According to sources, the total number of pilgrims this year is expected to reach some 2.3 million from about 160 countries. About 1.6 million people have already arrived.
Authorities pointed out that 32 hospitals and 140 health centers have been set up to attend to the participants, and special transportation has been arranged for the disabled.
Translation, orientation and consultation services in 51 languages are also guaranteed.
People began arriving on Sunday at the gathering centers on the outskirts of Mecca, from where they were transferred in small groups to hotels near the Grand Mosque.
