Ethiopian Minister of Water and Energy Sultan Wali, Minister Counselor for Economic and Commercial Affairs at the Chinese Embassy here, Yang Yihang and UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Addis Ababa, Cleophas Torori initialed the document focusing on biogas, biomass and solar energy production.
Wali revealed that the agreement allows for the development of renewable energy in and around Walayta Sodo University (South Eastern Towns region), primary schools in Harar city and the Amhara region (north).
The minister referred that, in accordance with the agreement, they will work to establish a research center for the sector and develop the capacity of the members belonging to the institution.
Yihang reiterated Beijing’s willingness to support efforts to improve the lives of Ethiopians through the breakthrough of renewable energy, in addition to other areas of cooperation with Africa to prevent climate change.
The minister counsellor stressed that the tripartite agreement to establish a research center is a cornerstone to boost the development of the energy sector.
Torori, in turn, said that expanding the development of such energy source options is of great benefit in addressing climate change and building a green economy.
