According to statistics published by The Phnom Penh Post, Cambodia reported as many as 1,400 new HIV/AIDS cases in 2022, a surge of 300 over 2021.
HIV/AIDS infection rate was reported highest among men who have sex with men, with an increase described as alarming by Prime Minister Hun Sen, who warned that HIV infections remain a threat in Cambodia.
Hun Sen recalled that using condoms is the most effective way to prevent transmission and called on factories and manufacturing companies, as well as other state-run entities and institutions, not to discriminate against people living with HIV/AIDS.
According to statistics published by UNAIDS, 74,000 Cambodians were living with HIV in 2021, over 62,500 of them received antiretroviral treatment.
