Druze of the Israeli-occupied Golan on war

Tel Aviv, Jun 25 (Prensa Latina) Tension continues to increase in the occupied area of the Syrian Golan due to the decision of the Israeli government to erect dozens of wind turbines there, which provoked a wave of protests from the Druze community.

Since the announcement of the project, thousands of Druze rejected it, pointing out that it will damage agricultural production in their lands.

On Wednesday the most violent clashes took place, leaving eight demonstrators and 12 policemen injured.

The uniformed officers attacked the Druze, who in turn threw Molotov cocktails and stones, according to several national television stations.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “sent (National Security Minister Itamar) Ben Gvir to declare war on the Druze”, the leader of that minority, Sheikh Muwafak Tarif, denounced yesterday.

Tarif called for an immediate halt to the construction of the turbines, the cancellation of the fines, the demolition orders of the houses built in the area and the “racist laws” approved by the Israeli Executive.

Kan News television highlighted that the participants chanted slogans against Ben Gvir, known for his racist and anti-Arab stances, and repeated several times “with spirit and with blood, we will redeem the Golan”.
