Just when the issue is gaining more and more prominence in the electoral field prior to the July 23 elections, due to the denialism of the ultra-right Vox and confusing statements from the conservative Popular Party (PP).
The PP alliance with Vox to establish a government in Valencia is the focal point of the controversy, after agreeing with a politician who served a past sentence for domestic violence.
Criticism of the PP for not setting a vertical position on the issue increased and La Sexta television, in its program El Intermedio, launched a harsh editorial by Sandra Sabates to politicians who deny violence against women.
Meanwhile, Minister of Equality Irene Montero on Friday received in Madrid the presidency of the Ibero-American Initiative to Prevent and Eliminate Violence against Women from the Minister of Women of the Dominican Republic, Mayra Jimenez.
After signing a Memorandum of Understanding in these fields, Montero stressed that it will serve to promote “scenarios of dialogue and international cooperation” and to exchange experiences and good practices.”
