Spain assumes responsibility for violence against women

ESPANA3
Madrid, Jun 24 (Prensa Latina) At a time of high sensitivity on the issue, Spain has assumed the presidency of the Ibero-American Initiative to Prevent and Eliminate Violence against Women.

Just when the issue is gaining more and more prominence in the electoral field prior to the July 23 elections, due to the denialism of the ultra-right Vox and confusing statements from the conservative Popular Party (PP).

The PP alliance with Vox to establish a government in Valencia is the focal point of the controversy, after agreeing with a politician who served a past sentence for domestic violence.

Criticism of the PP for not setting a vertical position on the issue increased and La Sexta television, in its program El Intermedio, launched a harsh editorial by Sandra Sabates to politicians who deny violence against women.

Meanwhile, Minister of Equality Irene Montero on Friday received in Madrid the presidency of the Ibero-American Initiative to Prevent and Eliminate Violence against Women from the Minister of Women of the Dominican Republic, Mayra Jimenez.

After signing a Memorandum of Understanding in these fields, Montero stressed that it will serve to promote “scenarios of dialogue and international cooperation” and to exchange experiences and good practices.”
