The change in the energy matrix, based on international collaboration and local investment, is part of the modernization of the services provided by Sancti Spiritus’s Aqueduct and Sewage Company.
According to experts, the strategy is to increase efficiency and reduce power consumption, since this activity is considered one of the largest consumers of electricity the country.
Sancti Spíritus will benefit from 98 pumping systems for drinking water and one for wastewater with hybrid pumps, which work with solar panels and, if required, will be connected to the electric grid. To date, more than 15 settlements have benefited from that source of energy.
The company plans to prioritize towns with equipment that has been in operation for a long time or whose technology lacks replacement.
Among the equipment’s suppliers is the German company Lorentz, a leader in solar energy pumping means, and includes structures and components for installation and start-up. Prensa Latina learned that the investment project to replace the energy matrix will benefit nearly half a million people with drinking water pumping equipment of less than 10 kilowatts (kW) of power.
The first stage of execution includes some 10 provinces and the assembly of more than 720 photovoltaic energy pieces of equipment, which, after being installed, will save 7.1 Gigawatts to the National Energy System.
