The press release noted the plans for Cuba’s westernmost province, Pinar del Rio, in support of the recovery from Hurricane Ian.
For this purpose, FAO, with support from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), delivered 514 kilograms of seeds of different crops (radish, Spanish and Chinese chard, chives, beets and carrots) 3.68 tons of which were produced.
Such a contribution benefits a population of 327,385 people in Pinar del Rio, the communiqués added.
The director of the Pinar del Rio-based Unidad Empresarial de Base de Semillas, Jorge Luis Diaz, thanked FAO for this donation to productive units in the most affected municipalities (Pinar del Rio, Los Palacios, Consolacion del Sur, San Luis, San Juan y Martinez, Viñales, and La Palma).
Food Processor Misleydis Marquez said that the acquisition of seeds allowed for a quick recovery after the hurricane.
