The legislator participated in the forum “Suicide, a reality that challenges us” held at Parliament and was interviewed in the “Panorama 1410” program, broadcasted on radio and television.
“Uruguay has a very high suicide rate, the highest in the region. This shows that public policies have failed. We are failing as a society,” the senator said.
We have few tools to address it, not only from the health system -care and access to professionals- but also from the community, Sánchez added.
Therefore, the senator urged to work “at schools, homes, and neighborhoods to generate a more forceful policy on preventing suicidal behavior so as to reverse this reality.
