Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin attended a meeting on Thursday with his Brics counterparts in South Africa, where he noted that the organization of the games in his country follow the instructions of President Vladimir Putin, and in agreement with the government of the Republic of Tatarstan.
According to Matytsin, Russia has consistently advocated the comprehensive strengthening of friendly sports ties with Brazil, India, China and South Africa on the basis of equality, non-discrimination, mutual respect and the athletes’ equal access to competitions.
Now it is more important than ever to strengthen our cooperation, develop new formats of interstate sports events,” he said.
In his speech, Matytsin supported the proposal of the South African delegation to establish a BRICS Sports Charter for fruitful cooperation in the field of sports.
In mid-May 2022, the Russian president instructed the government to submit proposals for the organization and hosting of the Brics Sports Games in 2024.
