Syrian representative at the United Nations Office in Geneva, Ambassador Haider Ali Ahmed, reportedly expressed this stance during a general discussion session on the humanitarian part of the Economic and Social Council in that Swiss city.
The diplomat said these punitive measures hinder the arrival of humanitarian aid and the reconstruction process and are a leading challenge to saving several vital sectors.
He added that since the war started in 2011, the Government has spared no effort to fulfill its duty to meet all humanitarian needs of its citizens and improve their living conditions, despite the difficulties caused by the conflict and the sanctions.
Ali Ahmed affirmed Damascus’ willingness to cooperate with the United Nations and its humanitarian organizations so as to assist all Syrians without discrimination and achieve early recovery through the rehabilitation and reconstruction of service infrastructure and civilian facilities affected by this war.
