The Cuban president was received by French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna, at the Palais Brongniart, a few minutes before the opening of the two-day event in which about 100 heads of State and Government are participating as guests.
Díaz-Canel is attending the forum as the President of the Group of 77 (G-77) plus China, a bloc that includes 134 of the 193 United Nations member states, of which Cuba holds the presidency pro tempore this year.
The forum aims to address the challenge of building a more responsive, equitable, and supportive financial system from multilateralism, allowing it to face inequalities, accompany the fight against climate change, and materialize sustainable development.
Cuba’s positions on this issue are known and include a call for concrete support to the countries of the South in terms of market access, technology transfer, and capacity building.
Cuba also advocates for inclusive international financial cooperation and a multilateral mechanism for renegotiating sovereign debt.
Cuba has been facing an economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States for more than 60 years, a policy that violates international law and multilateralism.
Díaz-Canel expects to reiterate these positions during the forum and its meetings in Paris. The Summit for a New Global Financing Pact will conclude on Friday, June 23, with the family photo, the closing ceremony, and a press briefing.

Presidente de Cuba participa en cumbre sobre Nuevo Pacto Financiero
París, 22 jun (Prensa Latina) El presidente de Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, participa hoy aquí en la cumbre sobre un Nuevo Pacto Financiero Mundial, foro inaugurado por el jefe de Estado anfitrión, Emmanuel Macron.
En el Palais Brongniart, sede del evento de dos días, el mandatario de la isla fue recibido en una mañana lluviosa por la canciller de Francia, Catherine Colonna, unos minutos antes de la instalación de la cumbre con alrededor de un centenar de jefes de Estado y de Gobierno invitados.
Díaz-Canel asiste en su condición de líder del Grupo de los 77 más China, bloque que integran 134 de los 193 Estados miembros de las Naciones Unidas, en el cual Cuba ejerce este año la presidencia pro tempore.
El encuentro busca encarar desde el multilateralismo el desafío de construir un sistema financiero más reactivo, justo y solidario, que permita enfrentar las desigualdades, acompañar la lucha contra el cambio climático y materializar los objetivos de desarrollo sostenible.
Las posiciones de Cuba ante el tema son bien conocidas, y pasan por el llamado a un apoyo concreto a los países del Sur en materia de acceso a mercados, transferencia de tecnologías y creación de capacidades.
La isla aboga también por una cooperación fiscal internacional inclusiva y por el establecimiento de un mecanismo multilateral de renegociación de deudas soberanas.
Desde hace más de 60 años, Cuba enfrenta el bloqueo económico, comercial y financiero de Estados Unidos, una política contraria al Derecho Internacional y al multilateralismo.
Se prevé que Díaz-Canel subraye estas posiciones durante la cumbre y sus reuniones en esta capital.
El foro sobre un Nuevo Pacto Financiero Mundial culminará mañana con la foto de familia, la ceremonia de clausura y una conferencia de prensa.
