The Italian office also posted on the weekly Difesa del Popolo website that about 20,600 unaccompanied children have been distributed in almost all domestic regions.
Daniela Fatarella, director of Save the Children Italy, regretted that about 4,000 places for minors are just available in the network of the Reception and Integration System, and stressed: “we must reach at least 10,000 as soon as possible.”
Meanwhile, the organization requested the Italian Government to harp on migration negotiations with the European Union (EU) the right of reunification of minors with their parents, siblings or any other family members if they are in another regional country.
Fatarella noted that by doing so, “we will combat second-level migratory movements, that is, when minors continue their migratory project independently with the risk of ending up in the hands of traffickers and criminals.”
