According to the most recent report of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), four new deaths were registered in the last week, bringing the sum up to 17.
The Department of Epidemiology of the Minsa indicated that from June 11 to 17, 513 new cases of influenza were detected nationwide.
Of the 17 deaths, 11 correspond to men aging from eight to 82 years, the report said.
The Minsa indicated that the deaths are concentrated mainly in the regions of Salud Panama Metro, Panama Oeste, the capital district of San Miguelito; in addition to the provinces of Colon, Chiriqui, North Panama and Veraguas.
It also highlights that 15 of the deceased (88%) had risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity and immunosuppression, among other diseases.
Of the 17 deaths, 13 were not vaccinated, the Ministry warned.
