Mexico: Intense heat caused 11 deaths and high temperatures continue

Mexico City, Jun 21 (Prensa Latina) The third heat wave in Mexico has already caused the death of 11 persons and heat stroke and severe burns to 487, according to the latest report of Public Health, as the high temperatures continue.

The Federal Electricity Commission reported that in some neighborhoods of Mexico City and Mexico State, transformers exploded due to excessive loads caused by hundreds of thousands of air conditioners and fans on, at the same time, which has caused power outages that were quickly solved.

Many schools, especially in the Valley of Mexico and the north of the country, were closed because the students were very affected and not all of them had the possibility of receiving classes outside the facilities.

Rains had been forecasted for yesterday, Tuesday, to cool the atmosphere somewhat, but not a single drop had fallen in the Valley of Mexico by dawn today, Wednesday.

Health authorities again asked the population to avoid going out between 12 noon and six o’clock in the afternoon, and also to avoid taking the Metro, and at the same time, to hydrate properly and use sunscreen with high filters.
