“I met with the president of the National Assembly of Serbia, Vladimir Orlic,” the Cuban head of State wrote on his Twitter account.
We share the interest in strengthening inter-parliamentary ties between Cuba and Serbia and the willingness to continue to strengthen the ties of friendship and collaboration between the two countries, noted Diaz-Canel, who is on an official visit to Serbia.
The meeting confirmed the two countries’ willingness to continue to boost and expand relations between the legislative bodies of both nations, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez tweeted.
On Wednesday, Diaz-Canel was received with military honors by his Serbian counterpart, Alexander Vucic.
At a joint press conference, Diaz-Canel described the meeting as very fruitful, and stressed the honor of being in this capital in response to the invitation.
Vucic, in turn, reaffirmed the will to continue to strengthen the historic ties of friendship and cooperation that connect Cuba and Serbia, and expressed satisfaction with the excellent state of political ties between the two countries.
We will conclude our visit with great optimism in the future of relations between the two States, and with absolute confidence that they will continue to strengthen and expand for the benefit of both peoples, the Cuban president stated.
The Serbian head of State pointed out that he was proud of the Cuban president’s visit, because the Serbian people love Cubans.
We are independent, sovereign countries, and in the heart of Europe Cuba has a people who support it, Vucic emphasized.
He informed that they spoke about enhancing collaboration in sectors such as health care, tourism, biotechnology, agriculture and sports, and thanked Cuba for its support for Serbia’s territorial integrity.
Diaz-Canel is on a European tour that has already taken him to Italy and the Vatican, and will continue in France, where he will participate, as president of the G77+China, in the Summit for a New Global Financial Pact in Paris on June 22 and 23.
