Initiative to organize Cuban film festival in France recognized

Paris, Jun 20 (Prensa Latina) Roberto Smith, vice president of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (Icaic), highlighted here today the organization of the first Cuban film festival in the French city of Vitry-sur-Seine and acknowledged its first days.

In statements to Prensa Latina, he thanked the initiative of the association Cuba Coopération France (CubaCoop) and the hospitality of the commune of the Paris Region, where the event will be held from June 17 to 24, with films such as Fresa y Chocolate, El Benny and Conducta, in addition to exhibitions, debates and other collateral activities.

Even though it is too early to make any statements, we can say that the inauguration on Saturday was very emotional and that the first days of presentations, including debates, have been very well organized, the director of the Cine Cubano magazine also commented.

Cuban poet Nancy Morejon, in her capacity as sponsor of the festival, declared the seventh art meeting open on Saturday, after the interventions of the mayor of Vitry-sur-Seine, Pierre Bell-Lloch, the ambassador of Cuba to France, Otto Vaillant, and the first vice-president of CubaCoop, Miguel Quintero.

According to Smith, this is an interesting proposal, which its organizers hope to turn into an annual event.
