El Salvador requests the capture of former president Cristiani

Alfredo-Cristiani-1
San Salvador, Jun 20 (Prensa Latina) The Second Court of Instruction of San Salvador issued a new arrest warrant for former president Alfredo Cristiani to the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), a judicial source informed.

The same order includes former congressman Rodolfo Antonio Parker Soto, also indicted for the massacre of six Jesuit priests and two collaborators, executed in the Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas, San Salvador, on November 16, 1989, by members of the Atlácatl Battalion.

The court’s resolution dated June 13 of this year states: “The prosecutor’s petition is declared admissible and, consequently, a red notice is sent to the Interpol in its office in El Salvador…in order to make the arrest of the accused Alfredo Cristiani and Rodolfo Parker effective”.

The request must be evaluated by the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol based in San Salvador and then sent to the headquarters of that body in Lyon, France, where it will be decided whether it is viable to issue the red alert to locate and arrest both defendants.

Cristiani is accused of criminal responsibility for the commission of the crime of murder, acts of terrorism and proposition and conspiracy for acts of terrorism, according to the indictment, while Parker faces an accusation for crimes of procedural fraud and personal concealment.

The government is currently prosecuting Cristiani for alleged corruption, as a result of which properties, bank accounts, a helicopter and other assets worth US$85 million were seized.
