Protege Calle (Protect the Street) Program provides shelter and basic healthcare services to street people in order to mitigate negative health effects generated by sleeping outdoors.
Health authorities also activated the so-called ¨Code Blue¨ which helps the homeless to die of hypothermia in regions where temperature drops by over 5 degrees Celsius.
In the Metropolitan Region of Santiago, the Presidential delegate Constanza Martínez said Chile has about 490 shelters available.
