tratado-768x364
Rome, Jun 19 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez considered essential to adopt the treaty on Marine Biodiversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction by consensus at the UN on Monday.

Rodríguez, who is paying an official visit to Italy alongside Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, praised on Twitter the crucial role of such an agreement to save the oceans, threatened by pollution, climate crisis, and new technologies.

Known as the Treaty of High Seas, this legal instrument will allow to establish marine protected areas in international waters and deem it necessary to save the oceans.

The UN Secretary-General (UNSG) António Guterres stated that the “historic agreement proves that the international community can unite to respond to major global issues and the “spirit of international cooperation is still alive.”
