The violent attack, blamed by authorities on the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group linked to the extremist Islamic State (IS), occurred at an educational center in Kasese District, near the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), on Friday.
According to government sources, in addition to the 42 deaths, most students and other civilians were injured or abducted during the attack.
As the UNICEF representative in Uganda, Munir condemned the tragic deaths of innocent people and the abduction of the students, and called on the attackers to hand over those kidnapped immediately.
