La Guaira, Venezuela, June 17 (Prensa Latina) The participants in the Sixth Regional Meeting of Cuban Residents in Latin America and the Caribbean reaffirmed here today the commitment to defend the homeland and continue the battle against the US blockade.

The final declaration of the two-day meeting, attended by delegates from more than a dozen countries in the region, declared maintaining the most absolute loyalty to the country where they were born, coordinating and implementing joint actions in the interest of the nation.

The text expressed its rejection of the inclusion of Cuba in the spurious list of countries that according to Washington sponsor terrorism and demanded the return of the illegally occupied territory of the Guantánamo Naval Base, in the eastern part of the island.

They also expressed their permanent repudiation and activism against the United States’ attempts to subvert the Cuban political order and called in this sense to strengthen coordination with solidarity movements with the homeland and other groups.

The document called for intensifying the use of social networks to help counteract campaigns that undermine the image of Cuba and its people, and to be more proactive in participating in the business opportunities offered today by the island’s portfolio.

The declaration proposed promoting activities to involve the new generations with the knowledge of Cuban history and culture.

The action plan, for its part, called for consolidating the work and functioning of the associations, maintaining as a priority the activities aimed at lifting the blockade, the return of the Guantánamo Naval Base and the elimination of the list of sponsoring countries of terrorism.

It was agreed to award the venue for the next meeting, within two years, to the Dominican Republic.

At the end of the event, Laura Pujol, deputy director general of Cuban Consular Affairs and Residents Abroad, praised the development of the meeting and meant that she came to work and do the best for Cuba.

She pointed out that we have a common understanding, which does not imply that we have criteria and opinions to validate with the Government.

Ella Pujol told the delegates that they have an open and permanent path with the consulates where they live, that this is also the accompaniment and work with the emigrants.

She pointed out that the participation of Cubans residing abroad is greater today as a consequence of the change in this pattern in recent years and due to the political will of President Miguel Díaz-Canel.

You are fuel for our soul, knowing that the Revolution is everywhere, since the Cubans who are scattered throughout the world are our best ambassadors, she assured.
