Serbia formalizes arrest of Kosovar policemen and increases tension

policia-servia-768x432
Belgrade, Jun 16 (Prensa Latina) Serbian Justice ordered provisional imprisonment of three Kosovar policemen arrested last Wednesday, a fact that raised the tensions between Belgrade and Pristina in the middle of new demonstrations in the Kosovar north zone.

At the proposal of the Prosecutor’s Office, the court of Kraljevo (center) decreed that the three detainees remain in prison for at least 30 more days, as suspects of a battery of crimes that includes the illegal possession and trafficking of weapons and explosive substances, according to the Tanjug agency.

The Belgrade authorities claim that they were arrested on Serbian territory, a fact denied by Pristina.

Meanwhile, the northern part of Kosovo was the scene today of new protests against the investiture of ethnic Albanian mayors elected in elections in which the Serbian population did not participate.

The Kosovar Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, was undecided today about his possible response to the invitation extended the day before by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, in order to initiate a new round of contacts and reduce tensions.
