Properties of El Salvador’s former president seized

vivienda-Alfredo-Cristiani1-768x459
San Salvador, Jun 16 (Prensa Latina) The properties seized from former president Alfredo Cristiani in El Salvador amount to 85 million dollars, the Attorney General's Office (FGR) informed.

Former president Cristiani (1989-1994) governed the country for the Nationalist Republican Alliance Party (ARENA) and according to his critics, he came to power bankrupt and left as a millionaire.

The former president is today the target of the anti-corruption campaign launched by President Nayib Bukele on June 1 during his message to the nation for his four years in office.

According to Bukele, the increase in the amount occupied is due to the fact that Droguería Santa Lucía was valued at what the building was worth, but it is a company that sells tens of millions of dollars a year, and also has inventories, accounts receivable, in which there are funds from the accused.

The same happened with many farms that had inventories, crops and equipment; and more properties were found, he added.

Eight new companies were identified in which (Cristiani Burkard) has an important participation. These cannot be seized because they have other partners who are not necessarily accomplices, but his shares will be seized, he said.

So far, 168 real estate properties, 18 financial products (bank accounts and time deposits), 42 vehicles and three companies that are part of his patrimony have been identified among the assets.
