Castro began her day of activities with a tour of Tiananmen Square, where she laid a wreath at the Monument of the People’s Heroes.
The President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping will officially welcome her later at the Great Hall of the People, after which they will hold talks and proceed to sign agreements in different sectors.
According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Honduras, Eduardo Enrique Reina, the two countries will sign 19 cooperation agreements, including the memorandum of understanding for the participation of Honduras in China’s project of the Strip and the Silk Road.
Castro is also expected to meet with other authorities such as Prime Minister Li Qiang and the leader of the Parliament Zhao Leji.
The dignitary began her first visit to China last Thursday, almost three months after Tegucigalpa formalized ties with Beijing and broke more than 80 years of ties with Taiwan.
In the context of the journey, Castro requested the adherence of Honduras to the New Development Bank, popularly called the Bank of the BRICS group; she also spoke with executives of the Huawei technology company, attended the opening of the embassy of Honduras and a business forum between businessmen from both nations.
