Directed by prima ballerina Viengsay Valdés, director of the Cuban National Ballet (BNC), the event is sponsored by the Cuban Ministry of Culture, the Madrid Embassy in Havana, and the Federation of Spanish Societies.
In a press briefing, Valdés said the event is a tribute to the Spanish presence in Cuba and reminds this nation’s roots.
She stated that the meeting also celebrates the 75th anniversary of the company, rescuing pieces from its wide repertoire, which includes, works that will be performed until Friday as part of the Festival.
Valdés highlighted the participation of the Antonio Gades Foundation and Company, which will work rigorously on the details of the staging of the ballet “Bodas de Sangre” (Bloody Wedding), with Cuban and Spanish dancers on stage.
This year, the Festival proposes an extensive program that will begin with a passacaglia with many participants from Madera Street to the Havana Amphitheater, where the opening ceremony will take place this Monday.
