The IGAD specified that besides the leaders of Ethiopia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda and Djibouti, the event is being attended by the African Union, members of the diplomatic community and representatives of the United Nations and the European Union.

The Assembly will provide an opportunity for the member states of the organization to review the progress in addressing these issues and discuss new strategies to achieve sustainable development in the region.

The discussions are expected to be focused on the ways to strengthen cooperation among member states, improve integration, promote peace, stability, and economic growth.

Following the meeting, a joint statement will be released outlining the results of the discussions and the way forward.

The IGAD reiterated the commitment of its members to work together to address the challenges facing the region.

The Assembly of Heads of State and Government is the Authority’s supreme policy-making body, which determines the objectives, guidelines, and programs of the Secretariat.
