India’s Foreign Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaisankar, chaired the meeting, which should end on June 13 with a series of proposals that will contribute to the United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development Goals to be held next September.
With a special video address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the meeting began in the city of Varanasi with the participation of more than 200 delegates representing the G20 member nations and international organizations.
The meeting features sessions on Multilateralism: collective actions to accelerate progress towards the SDGs and Green development: a LiFE (lifestyle for the environment) approach, according to sources from the organizing committee.
As part of the event, India organized cultural programs, exhibitions and excursions for the delegates to get acquainted with the culture and traditions of Varanasi, one of the oldest cities in the world.
