Eastern Cuba begins recovery after pounding rains, Díaz-Canel reports

Havana, Jun 11 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said today that the provinces hit by heavy rains in the center and east of the island have begun recovery works, although there are still flooded areas in that region.

In his Twitter account, the president revealed that he held conversations with Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia and members of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Felix Duarte, Yoel Queipo and Jorge Luis Broche, who were deployed in working commissions to support eastern Cuba.

There are still flooded areas, the situation is improving and the provinces are beginning the recovery stage, the head of state of the Caribbean island wrote. That region was hit in the last 72 hours by persistence rainfall and the overflowing of rivers and tributaries, Díaz-Canel summarized in that social media.

The National General Staff of the Civil Defense urged on Saturday to intensify measures for the protection of people and material goods; following with discipline the orientations of the local authorities.

It further called to avoid imprudence in view of the increased risks associated with floods in Granma, Las Tunas, Camagüey and Santiago de Cuba, mainly. Official sources indicated there has been three dead.

The President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel has maintained constant monitoring of the hydrometeorological situation in these territories, and deployed work commissions to support the work of preserving life and resources of the economy.
