By that time, the post of president of the SCJN was being decided, so she was the candidate by the Executive. Oddly, lawyer Edgar Ulises Baez claimed to be the original author of her undergraduate submitted thesis to obtain her degree at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) 33 years ago.
In a press conference, Esquivel’s defenders informed of the ruling of the Ninth Civil Court of the capital.
The minister commented on her social networks that the ruling definitively proves that she is the original author of her thesis.
Esquivel tweeted, “With this determination, I conclude the matter and continue, without distractions, with my commitment -for over 38 years in public service- and the legal and moral obligation I have with the administration of justice in Mexico, as minister of the SCJN.”
Judge Magdalena Malpica closed the case due to Baez’s failure to appear in court. The resolution in favor of the minister is on Friday elevated to the category of executory sentence by the authority as res judicata and, therefore, compels its due observance by any person, assured Alejandro Romano belonging to the minister’s legal team.
In any case, Romano pointed out that they will ask the Ethics Committee of the UNAM to take this ruling into account for the internal process that follows in this matter.
