In a statement issued at the end of a meeting held yesterday, the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the President of that entity, Ursula von der Leyen, highlighted the common vision for a just energy transition that leaves no one behind and promotes policies and investments that increase renewable energy.
They also called for working towards an energy system free of fossil fuels, while ensuring energy security, accessibility and affordability.
Al Jaber welcomed the European Commission’s support for the call to triple renewable energy by 2030 and stressed that without a collective effort common goals cannot be achieved.
Also, the statement noted that the COP28 president-designate and the EC incumbent urged all governments to align their national efforts with the commitment to achieve the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement, which includes finding solutions to keep the global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius. The EC also expressed its support for the initiative of the incoming COP28 Presidency to organize the first health day and ministerial meeting on climate and health.
