Panama’s presidential pre-candidates question the government

tribunal-electoral-panama-1
Panama City, Jun 7 (Prensa Latina) Two presidential pre-candidates of the ruling Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD) of Panama closed today their campaigns with criticisms to the Government.

According to the former secretary general of the political organization, Pedro Miguel Gonzalez, the current vice-president of the Republic, Jose Gabriel Carrizo, another of the contenders in 2024 elections, is injecting public resources but he is an unpopular candidate within the collective.

Gonzalez added that this campaign has been lacking in proposals and empty of content when he believes it was a very important opportunity to present to the party and to the country the vision of the PRD on national development and how to solve serious problems.

If he wins this Sunday’s primaries, he said, beyond making alliances with other parties, he will be calling for a great popular alliance with diverse social sectors to make paradigmatic changes in Panama, because that is what society expects.

He considers that, if the government imposes its proposal, the fate of the PRD will be marked for the next election, “without any possibility of victory and the vast majority of the party will probably go on to another line”.

Also in this internal process, for the pre-candidate to the presidential seat Crispiano Adames for the PRD, former head of the National Assembly (Parliament), has offered a failed government in terms of public policies aimed at vindicating popular and middle class sectors.

In declarations to TVN news channel, Adames pointed out that Carrizo’s advantage is relative and a result of the management he gives to the Executive power, because from there he has established a platform of threat and harassment.

In this regard, he recommended that after the elections, all the adherents to the organization should rethink the political behavior of the PRD and that of the Government of President Laurentino Cortizo, which requires a change of direction, not just now, but since three years ago.
