According to China´s Deputy Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu and Director-General of the North America and Oceania Department Yang Tao, separately welcomed Daniel Kritenbrink, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs; and Sarah Beran, senior director of the National Security Council for China and Taiwan Affairs.
In a brief statement, it was reported this was another opportunity to foster the appropriate management of differences, as agreed by Chinese and US presidents when they met in Indonesia in 2022.
On the Chinese side, it was stated China´s stance regarding Taiwan issue and other important issues, while agreeing with US representatives to maintain communication.
While the two powers are delved into normalizing high-level interactions, rising tensions continue and the stumbling blocks hindering healthy and stable development of their relations remain.
“We urge the United States to adhere to the One China principle and the three joint communiqués, in order to handle economic and commercial relations with prudence, and to cease any official exchange with Taiwan”.
