Mekonnen and Vieira agreed to strengthen ties, recalling that the reopening of Addis Ababa’s Embassy in Brasilia this year aims to improve relations, according to the local Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mekonnen expressed his country’s willingness to cooperate with Brazil in investment, aviation, tourism, agriculture, manufacturing, environmental protection, mining, and energy.
Vieira arrived in Addis Ababa on Monday on an official visit. He stated that Brazil is willing to cooperate with Ethiopia in sports and other fields, including multilateral diplomatic forums and bilateral relations.
Earlier, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed received Vieira and discussed issues of common interest.
It is the Brazilian foreign minister’s second visit to Ethiopia. The first was in 2016 during Dilma Rousseff’s administration (2011-2016).
The delegation headed by Vieira expects to meet with Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, to discuss issues of mutual interest.
