In his announcement, Sununu stated that he believes he can be more useful working to improve the Republican Party.
“We’ve taken the last six months to really kind of look at things, where everything is. And I’ve made the decision not to run for president on the Republican ticket in 2024,” Sununu told Bash.
“I don’t mind who gets into the field, but given where the polls are right now, every candidate needs to understand the responsibility of getting out and getting out quickly if it’s not working,” Sununu said.
In early March, Sununu lashed out at Trump (2017-2021) and assured he will not be the Republican Party’s nominee in the presidential primaries.
“Trump is not going to be nominee. That’s just not going to happen,” Sununu said, however, he declared that he would support the presidential candidate who is elected, as demanded by the chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, Ronna McDaniel.
McDaniel called for all nominees to sign a pledge of support for whoever eventually gets the nomination, something that Trump himself has not firmly agreed to.
So far, apart from Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, the strongest candidates according to polls are Larry Elder, Vivek Ramaswamy; Asa Hutchinson; Tim Scott and Nikki Haley.
