The delegation led by Vieira is also expected to meet with African Union Commission Chairman Moussa Faki Mahamat to discuss issues of mutual interest.
Brazilian ambassador Jandyr Ferreira Dos Santos revealed to the Ethiopian Press Agency that Vieira will convey the message of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva that Africa is a priority for Brazil, and its willingness to expand its partnership with Ethiopia in particular and Africa in general.
“Cooperation for development is an essential axis of Brazil’s foreign policy with Africa, and Brazil wants to promote the association in agriculture, health and other frontiers”, Ferreira Dos Santos emphasized.
He reminded that both countries have enjoyed warm relations and share a variety of common positions in international organizations, including the United Nations.
Ethiopia reopened its embassy in Brasilia this year and the annual trade is increasing. “However, there is still a lot of room to grow,” the Brazilian diplomat said.
This would be the second visit of the Brazilian foreign minister to Ethiopia. The first was in 2016 during the administration of Dilma Rousseff (2011-2016).
