Raul Castro was born on June 3, 1931 in the town of Biran, Holguin, in the then Oriente province.

Raul Castro assumed the presidency of the country between 2006 and 2018, amid a difficult situation, during which he forged consensus and promoted structural and conceptual changes to update Cuba’s economic and social model.

Under his leadership, the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters imprisoned in the United States took place, as well as the process of talks and negotiations for the reestablishment of diplomatic relations with Washington.

In addition, he was the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba from 2011 to 2021, when Miguel Díaz-Canel, also the current president of the Republic, assumed that responsibility.
