Uzbekistan urges Europe to maintain humanitarian aid to Afghanistan

Tashkent, Jun 2 (Prensa Latina) The president of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyóyev, urged the European Union (EU) countries and those of Central Asia to maintain the level of humanitarian aid volumes for Afghanistan.

According to the head of State, speaking at the 2nd Central Asia-EU Summit held in the Kyrgyz city of Cholpon-Ata, the Afghan problem is at the center of the region’s attention, as the humanitarian situation in the country is deteriorating at a dizzying pace.

In this connection, we urge our partners not to reduce the volumes of humanitarian aid to the Afghan people, Mirziyev said.

The president also confirmed his country’s readiness to continue to provide the services of the Termez logistics center on the Uzbek-Afghan border for transportation of humanitarian cargoes.

“We propose to continue regular consultations between the special representatives of our countries in order to work out common approaches to the settlement of this situation so as to contribute to the peaceful development of Afghanistan,” Mirziyóyev added.
