In a ceremony held at the Syrian diplomatic headquarters in this capital, in which the internationalist doctor Aleida Guevara March was present, the participants reaffirmed that Che is present in the constant struggle of the Palestinian people for their legitimate rights and also in the firmness and resistance of Syria during 12 years of war.
In her speech, Aleida said that what the world is witnessing today constitutes an opportunity for unity among all countries and forces to confront the hegemonism of the United States.
She considered the Syrian people resisted and won, and now it is time for a very important stage of recovery, and expressed confidence in the ability of this people to rebuild everything as it was before and better.
In turn, Cuban Ambassador Luis Mariano Fernandez Hernandez said a few words in which he thanked all the friends present for showing solidarity with Cuba in the face of the genocidal blockade of the US government and the condemnation of its spurious list of country sponsors of terrorism.
Syria and Cuba are not only united by a friendship of 58 years of collaboration and solidarity support for the welfare of both peoples, we are also united by the struggle for the world’s just causes of the world, particularly that of the Palestinian people, he said.
During the ceremony, Palestinian representatives conferred to the internationalist doctor shields symbolizing the Palestinian struggle and the insistence to return to their land usurped by Israel, in addition to offering her traditional Palestinian handkerchiefs made and sent from the occupied territories.
The undersecretary of the ruling Baath party in Syria, Hilal Al-Hilal, had received the specialist in Pediatrics and highlighted the ideas and revolutionary legacy left by Che.
Aleida also visited the Great Umayyad Mosque, which was visited by her father, in 1959; and by Fidel Castro, in 2000, where the director of this Muslim historical monument, Essam Sukar, highlighted the validity of Ché’s thought in Syria and all over the world.
This is Aleida’s second visit to Damascus, after the one in 2006 at the invitation of the Ministry of Information, when she was received by the authorities and attended a series of mass activities organized in homage to Ernesto Guevara.
