Valdomir will be in charge of the interpellation to the Interior Minister Luis Alberto Heber on the effectiveness of the Government’s security plans, which was demanded by the Broad Front and is awaiting a parliamentary decision.

The legislator assured that in the first 150 days of 2023 there have been 148 homicides. “Almost one violent death per day,” he set out at a press conference.

The MP added that from Saturday to Wednesday at least seven homicides were registered in Montevideo.

One of the latest murders claimed the life of a supermarket’s manager in the streets of downtown Montevideo. The establishment was robbed by two criminals and the manager was shot in the head.

The assailants have already been identified and are under intense search.

The legislator stated that the Interior Ministry “has not landed yet” in order to contain what he defined as a rising tide of crimes.

The lawmaker also stressed that over half of the homicides have been remained unsolved. According to the Ministry data, 383 homicides were registered in 2022, which meant an upsurge of 25 percent over the previous year.

The truth is that every day press reports of robberies, pillages and murders are common and more numerous.
