The Ukraine-NATO Council will allow the former Soviet republic to participate in NATO’s actions on a par with other 30 NATO members, said Stoltenberg, whose bid to expand the organization is strongly opposed by Russia.
Moscow warned that the expansion of the Atlantic alliance directly towards its borders, as well as the deployment of its troops and combat means in neighboring countries, constitute a direct threat to its national security.
On Monday, NATO began, almost entirely in Germany, Air Defender 23, the largest exercise of its air forces since the end of World War II, with the participation of more than 220 aircraft from 22 countries, including 100 from the United States.
Such actions, amid Ukraine’s calls for increased military aid from the West, including the dispatch of F-16 fighters, further increase tensions in the region in the framework of the conflict in Ukraine.
