At his morning press conference in the state of Tamaulipas, the president responded to a question about these negotiations and the progress of the strategic railroad that will link the Pacific and Atlantic ports.
He said that in order to recover for the nation several sections of the Tehuantepec railroad in the hands of Larrea, an agreement was reached to hand over these strategic lines voluntarily, because they are in the isthmus.
An assessment was made, and there were no payments involved, but rather an eight-year extension of their concessions, which will now end in 2044 instead of 2036.
The president noted that the Secretariat of the Navy will be in charge of this important railroad, since it already operates this land link through the isthmus of these port terminals on both coasts of the country.
The franchised sections total more than 120 kilometers, and Grupo Mexico will continue to use them by means of a payment already agreed upon between the parties.
