Iranian FM to participate in meeting of BRICS friends

Tehran, Jun 1 (Prensa Latina) Iranian Foreign Minister Hosein Amir-Abdollahian arrived in Cape Town, South Africa, on Thursday, to participate in the ministerial meeting of friends of the BRICS Group, comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, IRNA reported.

The BRICS nations include the current economic powers, which together account for about half of the world’s population, constitute 30 percent of the world’s territory, and attract a quarter of global investments.

According to IRNA, the Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the countries that has expressed its desire to join the group with great influence on the world economy.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari said that so far, 19 countries have expressed their desire to join the BRICS.

During his visit to Cape Town, the head of Iranian diplomacy expects to meet with his counterparts to talk about issues of mutual interest, IRNA added.
