Foreign troops may enter Nicaragua for exchange purposes

Managua, Jun 1 (Prensa Latina) Foreign military troops may enter Nicaragua from July 1 until December 31 of this year to exchange experiences and provide humanitarian assistance of mutual benefit, it was reported.

According to a decree ratified the day before by the National Assembly (Parliament), the arrival of ships, aircrafts and military personnel from the armies of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Cuba, the United States, Venezuela and Russia is authorized.

According to the document, the Russian troops will participate in training and exchange exercises in humanitarian aid operations, search, rescue and salvage missions in emergency situations and natural disasters, as well as actions against illicit activities in maritime areas.

Meanwhile, the Nicaraguan army is authorized to leave the national territory for humanitarian purposes, exchanges of experiences and training to countries that composes the Conference of Central American Armed Forces, as well as Venezuela, Cuba, Russia and Mexico.

Each semester the Nicaraguan Parliament approves the entry of foreign troops, ships and aircrafts for military exchange and humanitarian assistance.

According to official sources, since the return to power in 2007 of the Government headed by President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo, more than 40 decrees of this nature have been approved here.

The president of the Peace, Defense and Governance Committee in the Legislative branch, Filiberto Rodríguez, highlighted the importance of such exchanges, as they strengthen the Nicaraguan army, which guarantees peace in the country.
