Washington’s false crying over human suffering in Syria cannot cover up the fact that its misguided policies are the main cause, by imposing unjust coercive and illegal economic measures on the Syrian people, the diplomat said during a Security Council session set to discuss political and humanitarian affairs in Syria.
Sabbagh clarified that the great wave of displacement that Syria witnessed is a result of US actions, in particular by facilitating the flow of thousands of terrorists into the country, the looting of Syrian oil and wheat, and the destruction of infrastructure.
This constitutes a violation of the United Nations Charter, all the norms of international humanitarian law and Security Council resolutions, the diplomat said.
According to the Syrian delegate, optimizing humanitarian and living conditions requires improving the economic situation, and this requires the immediate, complete and unconditional lifting of the blockade and supporting the efforts of the state to achieve the recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction of the damaged civilian infrastructure and facilities.
He expressed his wish that international donors assume their responsibilities, implement their promises and provide the necessary funds for the activities and programs of the United Nations to allow the implementation of projects included in the humanitarian response plan.
The official concluded his speech by expressing Syria’s condemnation of all Western calls for refugees not to return to their country and homes under false pretenses.
