El-Din Ala is a native of Aleppo, and he worked in the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for nearly three decades.
He was the Permanent Representative of Syria to the Office of the United Nations and International Organizations in Geneva for eight years.
The new representative was also an ambassador to Vatican City and Spain and worked at the Syrian mission to the United Nations in New York between 1996 and 2001.
