The first phase of the “Transitional Justice Policy Options” process took place successfully in cities of the Oromia region, and from Tuesday until June 17, 12 localities of Sidama, in the southwest and southern Ethiopia will be incorporated.

The initiative will end up in August, which has been enhanced by a high-level group of experts, arranged by the State portfolio, and planned to be discussed in 58 cities with the participation of individuals and stakeholders representing all sectors of society.

One goal of the national public consultation is to conduct a debate on alternative policy proposals presented by experts, and freely share their input to create the final document.

In April, Mareshet Tadesse, a member of the Transitional Justice Working Group, told the Ethiopia News Agency that because of these dialogues with communities, they developed a document to achieve the goal of transforming the country’s cyclical violence and political culture into a peaceful future.

Tadesse unfolded that they identified over 60 areas for consultation with victims, conflict-affected communities, religious and community leaders, media, influential people and segments of society.

Meanwhile, and within the framework of Transitional Justice, criminal charges against civilian and military leaders of the Popular Liberation Front of Tigray will be tackled for crimes committed during the armed conflict with the Government.
